If you are a parent of a child with autism and you are running an intervention program in your home, this scenario might be familiar to you.
You see these fantastic people coming in every day, patiently working with your child and writing down their notes. Periodically your BC (Behaviour Consultant) schedules a team meeting where they review those notes and make adjustments to the program. You may or may not see the stream of email that goes back and forth within the team. If you are like me, you may have made an attempt to save a bit of money by transcribing some of the notes yourself, into an electronic form of some kind that allows the BC to better track progress.
Despite all of that, unless you are an expert in behavioural science, you probably don't have a really good idea of how your child is progressing. I myself used to spend 5-7 hours per week transcribing notes and even though I came to understand what their shorthand meant, I wasn't able to see the big picture.
One of the goals of ABAKiS is to ensue that you as a parent have at your fingertips a clear and up-to-the-minute picture of your child's progress. Besides giving you peace of mind, you will be better armed with accurate and meaningful information that will help you to both actively support the program initiatives and ask more insightful questions of your BC and other team members.
ABAKiS is currently under development and will be launching a crowdfunding campaign in July 2014 to enable us to complete commercial-scale development. Limited space is currently available for those interested in participating in user trials, giving you the opportunity to help define the initial set of features and provide early feedback.
